Because Some Children Just Don’t Play Well With Others…

Hello all. First I want to say that this blog has accumulated a following that I am proud of. It has gained a global reach and I thank each and every one of you for stopping by to see what is on my mind. I hope I have entertained you and will continue to bring you fresh ideas, viewpoints, and silliness that will lighten your load each day.

Now…I HATE the secret word thingy that people have to fill in to leave a comment. I understand it, I just don’t like it. I also understand instant gratification and am a fan, so I haven’t required monitoring of comments before folks post them.

HOWEVER…it seems that a few new passersby have taken advantage of the ease through which they can leave blatant advertisements and plugs on this blog for others to…read. Yep, I'm getting SPAM! Some of those comments have been to sell a certain magic blue pill, some have been to plug web sites that we’ll just say…promote behavior that is best left private…and without video recording.

To that end, because I have found myself manually deleting those comments and really don’t have time for policing, will in a couple of days re-institute the monitored comment approval thingy.

I regret having to do this and I hope you all understand. Perhaps I am naïve, and I always give people the benefit of the doubt but… Some Children Just Don’t Play Well With Others.

I'm just saying.

Yeah, I've had the occasional "dirty" comment. I didn't choose to moderate, I logged in one day and I had a box that said, you have messages to moderate. It has actually been a positive, I can catch the bad stuff, and now more people comment than before.

Hello Rich! It is unfortunate, but we must fence in the yard to keep the "bullies" out :)

Be well,
Ron

P.S. I Enjoy your blog!

Hey Ron, I hate those 'secret word thingys' too, where you have to type some nonsensical word in order to leave a comment. I keep it turned off, but I have 'comment moderation' turned on. That way readers can leave comments with the annoying secret word thingy. The only disadvantage is that comments don't appear immediately....! Go on, you know you wanna!

Hi Ron! I'm completely with you on this - those captiva things are so annoying, especially when they are designed so you can't actually read them lol. I use the same method as Anne & Rich; it may mean a slight delay in your comment appearing but that sure beats having to scroll through dozens of comments to get to the 'real' ones!
Happy days :) xx

Hi Lisa and Gill - I hate to do it, and I feel bad for the folks that have to wait for gratification...but alas, there are sassy commenters out there that spoil it for the good kids.

Be well,
Ron

I await the day when my blog is popular enough to have to deal with spam. In the meantime could I interest you in a new adult friend at newadultfriend.bs?

Ok, so no matter what you choose to do, you are so not going to stop me from putting my comments out there. You block me I'll just start spamming Gill and Annie's blogs with my comments for your blog so that you can't escape me because I know you read their blogs too! =-p

Seriously (it happens sometimes)...I use the moderation and secret word thing because I don't have time to waste and I am sure the few people that actually read my blog and take the time to post something don't have the time to waste with that crap either. In the end the double barrier makes less work for me and less frustration for others.

I'm with SugaryCynic though...it's not like I have a boat load of visitors or stalkers, or people who love me or care what I have to say .... *sob*

Jewell - You have given me philanthropic motivation to use the monitoring thingy…I will save Gill and Annie from your wrath or at least Viagra adverts 

Love you all and thanks for understanding.

Ron

ummm...uh oh..."philanthropic motivation"....that's not that other little blue pill that is actually on the black market, and makes you see pink elephants is it?

Sorry...I'm not doing well with big words today! =)

Ah, ha! I knew I left it here somewhere. I'm so happy you found it for me Ron! Next time, I promise I'll do a better job at picking up after myself - you won't find anymore spam leftover from me after this post.

So until next time... http://www.likelihoodofconfusion.com/wp-content/uploads/2007/11/spam.jpg

Wordpress blogs have a automatic plugin that captures the vast majority of the spam comments. I currently have my blog set so that the first time you comment, I must approve, then afterwards, it will remember you and automatically post.

And just in case... if one of the bad apples ever happens to slip through, this will come in handy...

It's called Troll Spray:

Martin - Soooooooo it is you! Aha! Thanks for the info, and by the way...there is a dust pan on the side to clean up your SPAM...which by the way I loved as a kid ...even though it wasn't really food, and has become a bad thing...both in the meat world and with the internet...oh well...why couldn't chipped beef on toast be the new spam instead [shit on a shingle] I'm just saying :)

Yes, I also had a rash of children behaving badly and so a degree of monitoring has to take place. ~M

WOW-who knew a blog about putting a blog comment "condom" on would inspire so many comments. Funny and provocative ones! WOOT!

Lisa - I Know??? Who'd a thunk it? Way cool though. Thank EVERYONE for your support...and safe blogging:)

I'm sorry :( I have my blog set up that way already but more because I deal with content that can be very personal and private so I want users to be able to comment w/o fearing others can read it. The spammers have mellowed because they get bored when they cannot post garbage on your site. It stinks but it works!

If I had a blog... said...

Hello Mel - the interesting paradox here is that I am getting a LOT of support over censorship. It is funny! I'm gald that SPAM doesn't fall under 1st ammendmant protection :)

Be well,
Ron
